Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Syla. By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to them.

Who may use Syla

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, your parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. You must provide accurate account information and keep access to your account secure.

What Syla does

Syla reads course material from Canvas that you choose to connect, keeps it current, and provides relevant context to AI assistants you authorize, such as ChatGPT or Claude, when you ask about your classes. Canvas access is read-only. Features may change as the service develops.

Your content and permissions

You keep ownership of content you provide or connect. You give Syla a limited permission to store, process, index, and transmit that content only as needed to provide, secure, support, and improve the service. You must have the right to connect and use that content.

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

Academic responsibility

Syla is a study and context tool, not a substitute for your own judgment. AI output can be incomplete or wrong. Check important claims against the cited course source and follow your school's academic integrity rules. You remain responsible for work you submit and decisions you make using the service.

Subscriptions and renewal

Paid plans renew automatically at the cadence and price shown at checkout until you cancel. Stripe processes payments. Taxes may be added where required. You may cancel in the billing portal, and access continues through the end of the paid period unless stated otherwise at cancellation.

We will provide reasonable notice before a price change applies to a future renewal. Refund eligibility is governed by the Refund Policy.

Acceptable use

You may not misuse Syla, including by:

  • breaking laws, school rules, or another person's rights;
  • accessing another person's account or course material without permission;
  • probing, disrupting, or bypassing security or usage controls;
  • introducing malware or using automated traffic that harms the service;
  • reselling the service or using it to build a competing dataset without permission.

Third-party services

Syla interoperates with services such as Canvas, ChatGPT, and Stripe. Their own terms and privacy practices apply to your use of them. Syla is not responsible for third-party availability, changes, or content.

Syla ownership

Syla and its software, design, and branding are owned by Syla and its licensors. These terms give you a personal, limited, non-transferable right to use the service, not ownership of it.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Syla at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for material violations of these terms, security risk, fraud, or legal requirements. Where practical, we will give notice and an opportunity to fix the issue.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Syla is provided as-is and without warranties of uninterrupted availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. Syla is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.

To the extent permitted by law, Syla's total liability for claims related to the service is limited to the amount you paid Syla in the 12 months before the claim. Some places do not allow certain limitations, so those limitations apply only where lawful.

General terms

California law governs these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If one part is unenforceable, the rest remains effective. These terms and the linked policies are the agreement between you and Syla about the service.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be announced before they take effect. Questions can be sent to founder@usesyla.app.
